2019 DC Black Pride Small Business Award

Michael was born in Richmond, Virginia and attended Thomas Jefferson High School graduating with honors and in the top 10 percent of his class. He attended Norfolk State University graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Media.

After graduation Michael returned to Richmond and worked in retail management at Thalhimer’s with his last tenure as that of Buyer. Michael moved to Washington, DC in May 1990 and recently celebrated his 29th anniversary as a DC resident. He transitioned from retail management to staffing as a temporary employee and labored in various capacities as Recruiter, Account Manager, Service Manager, Sales Manager, Regional Manager and Regional Vice President.

In July 2003, Michael started his own staffing firm, Mb Staffing Services LLC or affectionately known as simply - “Mb”. Mb Staffing Services is a results-oriented, precision placement firm serving a full spectrum of industries and staffing needs. They help their clients hire the best professional talent, improve recruiting and human resources strategies and increase workforce productivity. Their service credo states it all: “We’ve got staffing down to a science!” The logo, fashioned after a chemistry symbol from the periodic table of elements, symbolizes that unparalleled chemistry that is developed with clients and associates alike.

Since its inception Mb’s objective has been to grow their clients’ business and to grow professionally their people. Michael, along with his vision, has taken years of proven, solid, first-hand professional industry experience and created a company focused on building superlative business relationships.

Michael and the company has been featured MSNBC’s American Express Open Business News Forum, featured in Inc. Magazine, Black MBA Magazine, the District Chronicles, the Hill Rag, the Small Business Administration Magazine, the U.S Small Business Administration’s website ‘Ask the Experts’ feature, the H Street Community Development Corporation’s Business Asset-Builder Magazine and the Washington Business Journal as one of the top 25 staffing firms in the metropolitan Washington area. The company has been awarded the Inc. 5000, the Greater Washington Board of Trade’s ‘Company to Watch’, Acacia Federal Bank’s ‘Nice Guys!’ and the Washington Business Journal’s ‘Top 25 Staffing Firms’.

To enhance the firm’s experience, Mb holds memberships with several regional and national organizations. They are members of the United States Chamber of Commerce, the DC Chamber of Commerce, the American Staffing Association and the Society for Human Resources Management, the Capital Regional Minority Supplier Development Council and Diversity Business.

Michael is a 2015 Society Member of the National Museum of African American History and Culture, and memberships with the following: Ambassador Circle at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, National Trust for Historic Preservation, Smithsonian Institution and the Human Rights Campaign Federal Member. He served on the Board of Excel Academy an all-girls public charter school in the District of Columbia as Board Secretary. He is serves on the DC Chamber’s Small Business Advisory Council and charities include March of Dimes, St. Jude and the Beale Scholarship Fund. He is a member of the historic Nineteenth Street Baptist Church where he serves on several ministries.

He has a myriad of diverse interests to include sports (NBA, tennis), fitness (strength training and body conditioning, cycling, running, swimming). He is an avid reader, writes poetry and is a lover of words and languages. He enjoys travel (warm weather/beaches), music, concerts, gardening (horticulture and design) and is a foodie. Faith, family and friends are paramount
