VOLUNTEER COMMITTEE OPPORTUNITIES

The Board of DC Black Pride 2010 is committed to involving our community in the planning of our 20th Anniversary this Memorial Day celebration, as a kick-off for what we hope to be is a year-long celebration of the strength, unity and love of our community. We are proud that “The Legacy Lives”.

We are pleased to offer the following opportunities to contribute to our upcoming Memorial Day celebration. However, due to the already overwhelming response from the community, when selecting your committee(s) of interest, please provide three choices. Some committees may be capped and your first preference my not be available. We will do our very best to accommodate you.

INSTRUCTIONS

After selecting your committee, email us with the name of the committee, including subcommittee, if applicable, in the subject header. Also, provide your second and third choice. Please send your inquiries to volunteers@dcblackpride.org

Volunteer CHAIR/Committee

Encompasses the management of ALL volunteers for all Committees and Sub-Committees. You will assist with the organizing of volunteers to work at the individual events. Requires extremely good organizational skills, patience and commitment, as you will ensure that each event is properly staffed.

Marketing/Advertising CHAIR/Committee

Responsible for local/national marketing/advertising outreach and administrative assistance, including

–Internet/Print marketing including Constant Contact and Email
–Social Media Marketing  (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
–Blogging

Previous marketing experience is helpful, but not necessary. Creativity, ability meet swift deadlines and attention to detail are a must.

Community Partnerships Committee

Assist with the communication outreach efforts to energize local community involvement, including, but not limited to developing partnerships with non-profit and for profit organizations and business and ensuring accountability to community contracts.

Workshops CHAIR/Committee

Assist with reviewing abstracts and proposals from local/national persons/organizations interested in presenting during Pride. Will also assist the presenter with staffing, distributing and collecting materials during Pride.

Interfaith CHAIR/Committee

Assist with the planning, organizing and staffing of the interfaith service.

Fundraising Committee

Assist     with seeking funding for Pride through traditional and non-traditional sources.

Family Activities Committee

Assist with planning activities for families. Must have a strong interest in providing input and insight to fun and educational event planning.

Entertainment Committee

Provide assistance to the Committee/Chair who oversees the following entertainment events,

–Town Hall Meeting
–Opening Reception
–Awards Reception
–Volunteer Training
–Author’s Forum
–Workshops
–Film Festival
–Poetry Slam
–Fashion Show
–Health/Wellness Festival and Community Gathering

Upon adding additional events to the schedule, other opportunities will be made available.
