On behalf of the Board of
Directors of DC Black Pride and our volunteers,
I would like to thank you for supporting the
18th Annual DC Black Pride Celebration themed,
OFFICIAL: 18, Empowered and Poppin'. This year's
event started with a phenomenal fashion show
produced by Glynn Jackson, included a diverse
range of workshops filled to capacity, and Old
School House Party featuring DJ Mandrill hosted
by DCBP and Best of Washington. We took it back
to our roots with a free Sunday Expo featuring
local and national talent on Francis Field. And
we shut it down with the Official Unity party
featuring an amazing performance by the one and
only FANTASIA!
While we experienced some challenges along the
way (particularly with the event at the Avenue)
for which we are truly apologetic, we were proud
to host an event with double the attendance from
2007. I know many of you were looking forward to
the Monday picnic at Fort DuPont Park, and we
truly wish we could have delivered it for you.
As many of you know, the Monday event was hosted
by a local party promoter who chose not to
continue the tradition. Initially, we were
working with another promoter who decided not to
host the event this year. We hope to revive the
Monday event next year.
In the meantime, if you have praise or concerns
about the OFFICIAL 2008 DC Black Pride
Celebration, please feel free to email me at
csnowden@dcblackpride.org .
I look forward to seeing you all again next
year!
My warmest regards,
Courtney R. Snowden
