February 10, 2012 Queer People of Color (QPOC) Happy Hour Celebrating Black History Month (2/27)

DC Black Pride, DC Latino Pride and KhushDC invites the community to a social mixer to celebrate Black History Month and foster unity, leadership and collaboration on Monday, Feb. 27, 6 - 8 p.m. at Number Nine(2nd floor) located at 1435 P St NW, Washington, DC 20005.

Join the leaders and supporters of DC's largest People of Color Pride celebrations as we celebrate our identity, diversity—and history. This is an excellent networking opportunity with LGBTQ People of Color community advocates. The mixer will feature 2-for-1 happy hour specials (order any drink and get a second drink free).

February 9, 2012 Call for Workshop Abstracts

Abstracts are now being accepted from the community to be considered for presentation as Workshops during DC Black Pride 2012 on Saturday, May 26 between 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Each workshop should be no more than fifty (50) minutes in length. DC Black Pride is seeking presentations in the following areas:
  • Women's Health
  • Men's Health
  • Transgender Health
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Youth Issues
  • Homophobia
  • Spirituality
  • Mental Health
  • Racism
  • Politics
  • Environmental Justice
  • Personal Finance
  • Culture
  • Fitness
  • Wellness
  • Anti-discrimination issues
Please submit a one page abstract with the following information:
  • Title of workshop
  • Names of the presenter(s)
  • Brief description of the proposed workshop
  • Brief bio of presenter(s)

Please note that there will not be any compensation to presenters for workshops and all accepted abstracts submissions will be notified by April 30, 2012.

February 1, 2012 BLGPD Now Seeking New Board Members

BLGPD is currently seeking additional community members to join the board of directors. Prospective new board members will be dedicated volunteers who are aligned with our mission and vision. Each board member will have a special skill set, diverse experiences plus a passion to recruit volunteers to help develop and execute BLGPD events (e.g. DC Black Pride) and programs. We are extremely interested in increasing the lesbian, transgender and youth composition on the board.

We are seeking community members with the following skill(s) or experience(s):
  • business management
  • corporate fundraising
  • finance/accounting
  • grant writing/resource development
  • information technical
  • marketing
  • professional meeting/event planning
  • project management
  • social media (Facebook, Twitter, bloggers, etc.)
  • traditional media (print, radio, television, etc.)
Board members:
  • must attend and volunteer to staff DC Pride events.
  • must be dedicated, dependable, organized and detailed oriented.
  • must attend regularly scheduled board and planning meetings.
  • must check email regularly to remain updated on committee matters.
  • must be a team player.
  • must actively contribute thoughts, suggestions and ideas during meetings.
  • must actively participant in the committee's annual evaluation.
  • must actively participate in fundraising efforts.
All interested members of the community should submit a resume and a short statement of interest to BLGPD board member Earl Fowlkes (efowlkes@dcblackpride.org). The submission deadline is Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012 at 5 p.m. (EST).
 
January 30, 2012 Volunteer Meeting

The first Volunteer Meeting for DC Black Pride 2012 will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 6:30 p.m., in the Edna Frazier Community Room of the Reeves Building, 2000 14th St., N.W., Washington, DC 20009.

All that are interested in volunteering, should attend this important meeting.
